Name: Madarame, Ikkaku
Fandom: Bleach

Age: As with all Shinigami, it’s difficult to say exactly how many decades he’s been alive. In terms of looks, he appears to be in his 20s, I would say.
Canon point: When he is defeated during the fight to maintain the pillars that were keeping the real Karakura safe.

Personality: Ikkaku is a tried-and-true 11th division member. As part of the most battle-hungry, blood-thirsty division in Soul Society, he lives to fight. Ikkaku is also loud and brash, although he can have a more lighthearted, teasing side with his close friend Yumichika and he tolerates the frantic hyperness of his tiny Vice-Captain, Yachiru, with surprising grace, even if he hates the way she slobbers on his head.

Ikkaku is loyal and has an undying devotion to his captain. It was because of Zaraki Kenpachi that he even became a member of the Gotei, following him to the Sereitei after he defeated him in a fight. He is willing to remain the third seat of the 11th division rather than seeking a Vice Captain or Captain position in another squad.

Because of this loyalty, he is willing to hold back and hide his true strength to remain a part of the Zaraki squad. This is most obvious when it comes to his ability to use Bankai. This is an accomplishment that shows he has great power, but he keeps it a closely guarded secret. Only a handful of people know he has it, and even fewer have seen it in action. However, this could also be seen as shirking his duty, such as when he let the pillar preserving Karakura fall while fighting Barragan's Fracción Poww. Iba, a former 11th division compatriot and Vice-Captain of the 7th division, chastised him for letting his personal goals get in the way of his orders. He allowed himself to be defeated, but he almost did it at a great cost to the mission.
It was also Zaraki Kenpachi who gave him his feelings on luck. If he is defeated in a fight but doesn't die, instead of feeling ashamed at losing to a stronger opponent, he considers himself lucky to have survived to fight another day.

Ikkaku has strong ideas about honor. He believes that you should tell someone your name before you fight. However, there's also some cockiness in this belief because he thinks it's only right to let someone know the name of the man who is about to kill him.

On a lighter note, Ikkaku is very sensitive about his bald head and will threaten great bodily harm to anyone who actually calls him bald in his presence.

Powers/Abilities: Ikkaku is a Shinigami. He fights with his zanpakutou, Hōzukimaru. In Shikai (a zanpakutou’s first and more basic released form), although it appears to be a spear, it actually becomes a sansetsukon. The chains allow greater mobility with his weapon. He has achieved Bankai, the second form of release for a zanpakutou. In its Ryūmon Hōzukimaru Bankai form, his sword becomes three large oversized blades connected by chains (http://skullfighter.webs.com/ikkaku_bankai.jpg). Because he can use Bankai, it is generally thought that he is at a captain-level in terms of strength, as only captains (and Ichigo) have been shown to attain Bankai in the series. Even beyond this assumption, he is without a doubt one of the strongest fighters in the strongest division in the entire Gotei 13.

As part of his division's code of fighting, he does not use any of the Kidou spells that other Shinigami consider a secondary form of attack.

Prose sample: Who the fuck was he going to choose? He found a piece of paper – to hell with anyone who thought 11th division members didn't know how to write – and made a list. It was just a list of the other Shinigami in the city, but there was something about putting it in writing that made this feel official. He could distance himself from the decision and make it just another piece of paperwork, like ordering new blankets for the division bunkhouse. He always shoved that kind of paperwork off on Yumichika, but that wasn't important right now!

Kira. A part of him thought he was the best choice. He had to be the kind of guy to take it in the ass. As far as Ikkaku was concerned, that was one of the most important things he needed to look for in his new partner. But he always looked so damn pitiful. He didn't think he could stand seeing that face staring up at him. Maybe he could just hope his bangs covered his face enough to ignore it?

Renji. His easy camaraderie with the other Shinigami made him both the best and the worst choice. The best because they could be casual about it, maybe make a few jokes along the way. The worst because what would that do to fuck everything up between them?

Ichigo. He was just a kid. Ikkaku was itching to spar with him, have a no-holds-barred fight out in the desert somewhere, but he just couldn't see doing this with him.

Hisagi. He barely knew him, but he looked like a fucking barrel of laughs. Maybe that kind of distance was what he needed though. Someone who would be businesslike about it, in and out.

He smacked himself in the forehead, letting his hand slide down his face, utterly disgusted with himself for the "in and out" comment.

That was it for the list, wasn't it? No. One more name that he was trying very hard not to include.

Yumi.

He couldn't even go on with a list of advantages and disadvantages. How could you suddenly start fucking someone you had been friends with for decades?

Damn it. Maybe he would just not do this and go crazy. It couldn't be that bad, could it? But he knew that for him, for any of the Shinigami, really, going crazy wasn't a luxury they could allow themselves. What if he took out half the city with his Bankai? What if he hurt these same friends he couldn't stand the thought of fucking if he went berserk and they had to subdue him?

Maybe he could just find this Loki bastard and give him a piece of his mind. Yeah, that was more like it! Challenge him to a fight, man-to-man! That was how he settled things, not with magic spells to make others do your bidding.

He crumpled up the piece of paper and threw it across the room. He had no idea what the hell he was going to do, and he only had a few more days to figure it out.

Links: This will be my first time playing Ikkaku.
